History
The Mozart Club was founded in the 1920s as an organization of the professional musicians of Winston Salem. They began hosting an annual free concert for the community of Handel's Messiah in 1932. Initially, only the Christmas portion of the Messiah was performed, but now typically the entire oratorio is performed. The performances were hosted at many locations in Winston-Salem over the years as the chorus and audience grew. Many well known conductors have performed with our group, including Sir David Willcocks. More info will be available soon about the annual performances.
The Mozart Club Board was led by Nancy Ann Harris Greenfield for many years until her death in 2006. Greg Powers organized and brought the Messiah performance forward after Mrs. Greenfield's death and served as chair until 2023.
